Background:
Mr. and Mrs. Appelbaum were lifelong residents of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before moving
to Boca Raton, Florida. They have been married for over 30 years, many years of which art
has been a major component. They now both enjoy taking classes together at Burlini Studio of
the Arts.

Burlini Studio of the Arts: Could you tell us about some of your work? How would you describe your style?
Marcy: I take to early 20th century artists. I enjoy creating more clean and flat style paintings. The subjects I
enjoy and create the most include flowers, outdoor landscapes and trees.
Morris: I enjoy painting portraits.
Burlini Studio of the Arts: Any influences or anyone you look up to when it comes to art?
Marcy: Impressionistic painters.
Morris: Old masters such as Pissarro, Da Vinci, and John Singer Sargent.
Burlini Studio of the Arts: When did you first discover your creative talents?
Marcy: I have been interested in art since I was a child. It was always my favorite subject.
Morris: Marcy and I got creative together when we starting doing clay sculpture in the early ‘80s. In 1987, we
moved from clay to stone sculpture. We took several trips to Italy with a sculpting class which allowed us to see
sculpture from the masters. I still continue to sculpt two days a week, but now work in marble exclusively
building small and large scale pieces (in addition to my painting).
Burlini Studio of the Arts: As husband and wife, is there a favorite memory you would share for inspiration?
Marcy and Morris: We enjoy everything we do together. We have traveled quite a bit and a big part of the
pleasure in our travel is the art. We are able to find beauty in everything we see – such as churches and
museums. We feel very lucky to have been able to find each other and share these passions together.

Burlini Studio of the Arts: How would you describe yourself in ten words or less?
Morris: Serious painter. Sculpture and golfer. 92 years young.
Marcy: People person. Goes out and experiences the world.
Burlini Studio of the Arts: Any words of advice for beginners?
Marcy: The important thing is to find the right venue – if you want to paint you need to find the right studio to align yourself with. Also, I suggest
looking at art magazines, art books, and art DVDs. You need to apply yourself to art as you would with any other activity.
Morris: I hope young people interested in art start early, get instruction and go to a studio such as Burlini Studio of the Arts. Make art every day, in
whatever manner so as long as it is constructive.
Burlini Studio of the Arts: What drew you to Burlini Studio? What is it about Chris Burlini’s approach and style that captured you?
Marcy and Morris: We met Chris two years ago when we decided to take some painting classes. We joined his class at a previous venue prior to
him opening the Studio. It’s been terrific – when we first started painting we were under other instructors and didn’t find a click. Now that we have
met Chris we take to it better. Chris makes it interesting and encourages us. We have found our niche with him. The Studio has been really terrific -
it is both professional and relaxing and has an overall nice camaraderie among the students. Our class ranges from beginners to the advanced. The
atmosphere created by Chris and Belinda enables a wonderful interaction among the students. And that is what is most important to us. Chris
somehow has the ability to transfer his talent from his mouth to your hand in a laid back, non-intense way. This makes it a terrific experience.
